Child-friendly Things to Do in Dubai for Families

Guest Post by Neha Singh

When you go on a vacation with your entire family, there’s just one concern on your mind. Does the destination have enough for the kids to do? Or will the kids be bored, dragged through boring attractions that only the adults understand? Well, your concerns stop in Dubai! The city brims with adventures of all sorts. Dubai has excellent theme parks, waterparks, desert safaris, sea cruises, great malls, water adventures and fabulous beaches to keep your kids happy. Come and check them out:

KIDZANIA DUBAI
  • KidZania

If you’ve got kids under age 12, then please do take them to KidZania. It’s a little indoor town, kid-size, where kids can have a go at playing real-life adults. They can be engineers, or doctors, or plumbers; they can don relevant uniforms and manage the economy of their little town. Let your kids enjoy this pint-size city full of career opportunities!

DUBAI AQUARIUM
  • Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo

Let your kids come face to face with the deadliest sharks behind the world’s largest acrylic sheet at Dubai Mall. They’ll be thrilled to be so close to great sharks, colourful fish and stingrays. The Underwater Zoo is located above the aquarium; here, your kids can pet trained painting otters, playful penguins and cool insects.

ADVENTURE WATERPARK

  • Aquaventure Waterpark

It’s so hot in Dubai that a waterpark is a must-visit. Aquaventure Waterpark is located at the very tip of the colossal man-made island, The Palm. Let your kids enjoy a number of heart-pumping slides such as the 9-storey drop of The Leap of Faith. Slide with them through the shark lagoon in the Shark Attack ride. Take them to explore the Lost World of Atlantis, a mysterious aquarium with submerged wrecks and other artefacts.

DESERT SAFARI
  • Desert Safari

One of the coolest things to do in Dubai with family is to go on a desert safari. Your kids will love bashing into dunes in a 4WD – the coolest desert rollercoaster fun ever. They can enjoy sand boarding, quad biking and camel riding as well! Take them on an evening desert safari so that they can enjoy a fabulous dinner after a spectacular cultural show. A desert safari is one of the most exciting child-friendly things to do in Dubai.

DUBAI’S BEACHES

  • Dubai’s Beaches

You can have your pick of Dubai’s natural coastline or the pristine man-made beaches of The Palm or The World islands. Most private beaches have swim-up bars, water sports and sun lounges.  At Kite Beach, you and your kids can enjoy banana boating, kayaking, surfing and a number of other water sports. There are free beaches too, near Jumeirah Beach Walk, where you’ll find gelato counters, burger joints and juice bars.

METRO RIDE AROUND DUBAI
  • Metro Ride Around Town

Got a train-crazy kid on your hands? The driverless Dubai Metro has elaborate gold-domed stations, and runs on an elevated line. Let your kids enjoy a unique view of Dubai, all the way from malls to beaches to islands. Let them watch the city whizz past and enjoy themselves.

SKI DUBAI
  • Ski Dubai

After you’ve spent a couple of days in Dubai, the heat starts to get to you. Never fear. Just get to the world’s largest indoor snow park, Ski Dubai. Take your kids tobogganing, bobsledding and skiing. Let them take any number of trips on the chairlifts. There are cute little penguins in the snow park as well. Younger kids will love the little ice cave and the chance to snowboard down smaller slopes.

DUBAI MIRACLE GARDEN
  • Dubai Miracle Garden

At Dubai Miracle Garden, you’ll find beautiful arrangements of millions of flowering blooms into fantastic shapes. There are lovely heart-shaped arches made out of flowers, plus huge teddy bears, an airbus, and much more. Your younger kids will love the butterfly garden and kids’ play area as well.

DUBAI GARDEN GLOW
  • Dubai Garden Glow

From November of the previous year to the next April, Dubai puts on a magnificent display called the Dubai Garden Glow. This year, Dubai Garden Glow has a Glow Park with sculptures made out of millions of energy-saving bulbs and 1000s of yards of recycled luminous fabric. There’s a Dinosaur Park with over 120 animatronic dinosaurs. The Ice Park contains incredible ice sculptures and the Art Park has a display of eco-friendly structures made out of thousands of recyclable ceramic dishes, CDs and small bottles.

DHOW CRUISE
  • Dhow Cruise

One of the most exciting things to do in Dubai with kids is to go on a dhow cruise along Dubai Marina or Dubai Creek. The cruise comes with onboard cultural entertainment, a great buffet dinner and commentary. Your kids will love to gaze in awe at the lights of Dubai’s coastline reflected on the water.

IMG WORLDS OF ADVENTURE
  • IMG Worlds of Adventure

IMG Worlds of Adventure is one of Dubai’s latest attractions. The theme park is divided into multiple zones – Marvel, Cartoon Network, Lost Valley, IMG Boulevard and Novo Cinemas. Each zone offers thundering rides based on comic characters and their adventures. The Marvel zone has superhero favourites such as Spiderman, Iron Man, Thor and others. At Cartoon Network, you’ll enjoy tons of adventures based on Cartoon Network toons. IMG Boulevard has the Haunted Hotel for some chills and plenty of dining and shopping options for the whole family.

I FLY DUBAI
  • Flying at iFLY

Head to iFLY at Mirdif City Centre and let your kids learn to fly in a 10-metre acrylic wind tunnel. If they are older, let them sky dive if they fancy. It’s great fun, and even kids as young as 3 are allowed to try their hand at flying within the tunnel. It’s quite safe, and there are instructors at hand to help kids get oriented, and get into their suits and helmets. iFLY is a good place to introduce older kids to the concept of skydiving. It’s a place that can be great fun for the entire family.

As you can see, Dubai is just the perfect place to take your kids to on a family vacation. Each year, Dubai comes up with a new and exciting attraction that promises hours of entertainment for the whole family. When you’re there with your family, check out Dubai Parks and Resorts, the Love Lake, White Water Wadi Waterpark, Dubai Dolphinarium and several other fun places. The problem you’ll face is not about whether your kids will enjoy themselves or not. The issue will be how to get them back home when they’re having so much fun in Dubai!
